The abduction of Elizabeth Smart was one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time. On June 5, 2002, days before she was set to graduate from middle school, 14-year-old  Elizabeth was taken at knifepoint from her bedroom at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. Elizabeth was taken to a crude campsite in the woods just three miles from her family’s home –close enough that she could actually hear the voices of searchers calling for her in the days following her abduction. Chained to a tree, she was repeatedly raped and threatened with murder. Fortunately, the police safely returned Elizabeth back to her family on March 12, 2003, after being held a prisoner for 9 grueling months.

Through this traumatic experience, Elizabeth has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs, and National legislation. Elizabeth’s abduction and recovery continue to motivate parents, law enforcement and leaders worldwide to focus on children’s safety. She emphasizes vigilance by "everyday" people and the belief that hope always exists to find every missing child.

Join us on March 11th as we welcome Elizabeth Smart to the Port City and hear her remarkable story that will help all in attendance make peace with the past and embrace the future with hope for a rewarding life.
